This word refers to a situation in life where you are facing a big problem. You have several options to deal with the problem, but whatever option you choose will make your situation worse. Since there is no way to fix the problem, all you have to do is just face it and hope that something will happen to save you from this situation.

This word comes from German and refers to a situation in chess where whatever move a player makes worsens his / her situation.
